WHAT YOU NEED TO GET CONNECTED

 COMPUTER - Any new computer being sold today is fast enough, but it should at least be a Pentium of some sort. It should also have at least 32MB of RAM.

 SOFTWARE - You will need a web browser and a mail package. The most popular package for this is the Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 4.01 or later as well as Microsoft Outlook Express for your mail.

 MODEM - A modem is a device that connects your computer to a phone line, and converts computer signals into phone signals and vice versa. We recommend any Telkom approved modem that can run at 28.8 kilobits per second or more.

 TELEPHONE LINE - All this connected to a standard Telkom telephone line will give you access to the internet.

 SETTINGS - Once all the equipment is connected, you will need certain access and configuration settings from CHILLIBYTE.COM. These settings are issued to you as confirmation of your access contract and include such settings as your user ID and password. Once this information is entered into the programs it is then stored and you won't then have to enter it again. Your access to the Internet from here on will be virtually automated.

 INSTALLATION PROCEDURES

These installation procedures have been done in steps to make it easier for the new-comers to the Internet, however they have been done assuming that you do have basic computer and Microsoft Windows experience including the use of a mouse. The procedures are based on the most common version of MS Internet Explorer and MS Outlook Express, versions 5.0

 ** STEP:  1

·         Go to START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, WINDOWS SETUP, COMMUNICATIONS, DIAL-UP NETWORKING and then OK until closed.

 ** STEP:  2

·         Go to START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, DIAL-UP NETWORKING. (If your modem has not yet been installed, MS Windows will install it automatically at this point.)

·         Go to MAKE NEW CONNECTIONS.

·         At NAME OF COMPUTER YOU ARE DIALING type CHILLIBYTE.COM.

·         Go to NEXT.

·         Type in the POP NUMBER TO DIAL (POP No.) FOR CHILLIBYTE.COM (no area code is necessary if it is a local number).

·         Now select SOUTH AFRICA, then NEXT and then FINISH.

 ** STEP:  3

·         Go to START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, DIAL-UP NETWORKING, click the right hand mouse button on CHILLIBYTE.COM.

·         Go to PROPERTIES, uncheck USE COUNTRY CODE AND AREA CODE (if the POP number you are using is a trunk call, then insert the area dialing code in front of the POP number so that it dials the entire number including the area code).

·         Uncheck LOG ONTO NETWORK

·         Check ENABLE SOFTWARE COMPRESSION

·         Uncheck REQUIRE ENCRYPTED PASSWORD

·         Uncheck REQUIRE DATA ENCRYPTION(Win 98 only)

·         Uncheck RECORD A LOGFILE FOR THIS CONNECTION (Win 98 only)

·         At ALLOWED NETWORK PROTOCOLS, only TCP / IP should be checked

·         Go to TCP / IP SETTINGS

·         Check SERVER ASSIGNED IP ADDRESS

·         Uncheck SPECIFY AN IP ADDRESS will uncheck automatically

·         Check SPECIFY NAME SERVER ADDRESSES and then SERVER ASSIGNED NAME SERVER ADDRESSES will automatically uncheck

·         At PRIMARY DNS - type    196 . 4 . 160 . 2

·         At SECONDARY DNS - type     196 . 4 . 160 . 8

·         Check USE IP HEADER COMPRESSION

·         Check USE DEFAULT GATEWAY ON REMOTE NETWORK

·         Click OK and the screen will then close

 ** STEP:  4

·         Restart  Windows

·         Go to START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, DIAL-UP NETWORKING

·         Double-click CHILLIBYTE.COM

·         Type in your new USER NAME as shown on the attached confirmation sheet

·         Type in your USER NAME PASSWORD (lower case only) as shown on the attached confirmation sheet

·         Click CONNECTS

·         A connection will now be initiated and established. As soon as the connection is made, the log-on screen will automatically close and the browser will automatically open

·         To disconnect, go to the task bar, click CONNECTED TO CHILLIBYTE.COM, and then click DISCONNECT

·         Close the browser

 SETTING UP YOUR OUTLOOK EXPRESS

(E-MAIL) POP3 ACCOUNT

 ** STEP:  1

·         Click on the OUTLOOK EXPRESS icon or go to START, PROGRAMS and then OUTLOOK EXPRESS.

·         Select the TOOLS drop down menu

·         Click on ACCOUNTS

·         In the Internet accounts window, click on MAIL and then ADD

 ** STEP:  2

·         At DISPLAY NAME, type in any name for your mail account. This name will only be visible on your computer

·         Click NEXT

·         Check  I ALREADY HAVE AN E-MAIL ADDRESS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO USE

·         At E-MAIL, type your e-mail address ie username@chillibyte.com

·         Click NEXT

·         For MY INCOMING MAIL SERVER IS A ????? SERVER, select from the drop down menu POP3

·         For your incoming mail (POP3) server, type in   196 . 37 . 72 . 226

·         For your outgoing (SMTP) server, type smtp.dial-up.net (lower case)

·         Click NEXT

·         For your E-mail Account name, type in the e-mail account name shown on the attached confirmation form

·         For the E-mail account Password, type in the e-mail account password shown on the attached confirmation form

·         Check REMEMBER PASSWORD

·         Uncheck LOG ON USING SECURE PASSWORD AUTHENTICATION

·         Click NEXT

·         Click FINISHED
