Possible Problems:

  • There is a problem with configuration and/or installation of the modem.

  • There is a conflict between your modem and another device on your computer.

  • There is a problem with your computer's serial port.

  • There is no power to the modem or the modem is off.

  • The modem is not correctly hooked up to your computer's serial port.

Make sure that the modem is switched on
Run a modem diagnostics test in Modem Properties, to see whether the modem is communicating with the PC
